OUR STORY

Our story begins in 1883, with the birth of Antonio "da la Mia" Zuliani, known as Vigilant, in Forgaria, a small Friulian village nestled among the mountains.

At just eight years old, Antonio left home to work as a kitchen assistant in Romania. After a life rich in adventure and hard work, in 1940 he and his brother Pietro purchased the Castle of Susans and the entire estate from Count Rodolfo IV, Count of Susans and Marquis of S. Sofia and Recanati.

The property included not only the castle and its annexes, but also 174 hectares of fields and woodlands. The estate was divided between the two brothers: Pietro retained ownership of the castle and part of the land, while Antonio acquired the farmsteads, their surrounding lands, the former stables—where he later built his home—and the woodlands.

Over the years, and especially following the 1976 earthquake, the buildings underwent several structural and architectural changes, shaped by both necessity and evolving agricultural needs.

After Antonio's passing in 1969, the farm was taken over by his daughter Maria Luisa and her husband Valter Giacomuzzi. In 2001, they transformed the family farm into an agriturismo, opening its doors to guests.

Since 2003, Barbara has been involved in the management of the agriturismo, and in 2007 she officially took over, together with her husband David, who lovingly cares for the olive grove and the olive oil mill.
